Admissions Lift
The fairest way we've found to measure the impact of counseling: comparing each student's actual admissions outcomes to what would be statistically expected for a student with their academic profile.
Current Admissions Lift
1.56
56% better outcomes than expected
Across our student pool, we receive 56% more admissions offers than would be statistically predicted based on each student's academic profile and college list.
What is Admissions Lift?
Families often ask an important question: “How do we know whether college counseling actually makes a difference?”
There is no single number that can perfectly measure the value of counseling. Every student is unique, and no ethical counselor can guarantee admission to any particular college. However, it ispossible to compare a student's admissions results to what we would reasonably expect based on that student's academic profile.
Admissions Lift measures how much a group of students outperforms their statistically expected admissions outcomes. Rather than simply counting acceptance letters, the metric asks a more meaningful question:
Did students achieve better admissions results than students with similar academic qualifications typically do?
To answer that question, we first estimate each student's expected probability of admission based on factors such as academic performance, course rigor, standardized testing (when submitted), and the selectivity of the colleges to which they applied. These expectations are derived from large admissions datasets and historical admissions patterns.
We then compare those expected outcomes with the students' actual admissions decisions.
A worked example
Suppose a group of students would be expected to receive 120 admission offers based on their academic credentials and college lists. If those same students actually receive 180 offers, their Admissions Lift would be:
180 ÷ 120 = 1.50
In other words, the group achieved 50% more admissions success than would have been expected based on academic profile alone.
This approach is more rigorous than simply reporting an overall acceptance rate. A counselor who primarily serves valedictorians would naturally report higher acceptance rates than one who serves students with a broader range of academic backgrounds. Admissions Lift accounts for those differences by comparing students to an appropriate baseline rather than to the applicant pool as a whole.
Like any statistical measure, Admissions Lift has limitations. It cannot isolate every factor that influences admissions, and it should never be interpreted as proof that counseling alone caused a particular outcome. Students' initiative, essays, extracurricular involvement, recommendations, institutional priorities, and simple chance all play important roles in the admissions process.
Nevertheless, Admissions Lift provides a meaningful way to evaluate outcomes across large groups of students. Instead of asking only “How many students got in?”, it asks the more informative question:
How much better did our students perform than we would have expected?
We believe that is one of the fairest and most transparent ways to measure the impact of high-quality college counseling.
About these numbers
The statistics on this page represent the cumulative results of two decades of college counseling work. We report what we actually observe across our full student pool — not the outcomes of a hand-picked subset, and not industry averages dressed up as our own.
If you have questions about how any number was calculated or what it includes, we are happy to walk through the methodology in detail.
